1 - Cabinet Approvals on June 12, 2019.
  • The Cabinet approved the introduction of a Bill namely The Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Bill, 2019.”
  • Cabinet approved a fresh bill to ban the practice of instant triple talaqMuslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2019. It will replace Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Second Ordinance, 2019.
  • The Cabinet approved the “New Delhi International Arbitration Centre (NDIAC) Bill, 2019” to promote ease of doing business in India
                             NATIONAL

1 - Government reduced the ESI contribution rate to 4% from 6.5%.
  •        The Government reduced the Employees State Insurance (ESI) contribution rate to 4%from 6.5%. This will benefit 36 million workers and 1.28 million employers and will lead to an estimated annual saving of around Rs 5,000 crore for firms. The reduced rates will be effective from July 1, 2019. The Central government through the Ministry of Labour & Employment decides the rate of contribution under the ESI Act.
  •         The Employees’ State Insurance Act 1948 (the ESI Act), administered by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), provides for medical, cash, maternity, disability and dependent benefits to the Insured Persons under the Act.
  •         The ESI Act 1948 under the labour ministry covers employees with salary up to Rs 21,000.

2 - Farmers contribution to be Rs 100 per month to PM-Kisan Pension Yojana.
  •         Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare announced that farmers in the country are expected to contribute Rs 100 per month under the Pradhan Mantri (PM) Kisan Pension Yojana. It seeks to provide a minimum monthly pension of Rs 3,000 on the attainment of 60 years of age. The central government will also contribute an equal amount to the pension fund.
  •         Pension Fund will be managed by the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC). It will be responsible for the pension payout.
  •         About PM- Kisan Yojana:
  •      PM- Kisan Yojana is an income support scheme for farmers. It is a 100% central sector scheme which will give farmers Rs. 3000 per month on attaing age of 60 years.
  •         ELIGIBILTY -  Entry age 18 to 40 years with provision of Rs 3000 on attaining the age of 60 years.  


 3 - World's Highest Weather Stations Installed Atop Mount Everest.
  •         A team of Tribhuvan University and National Geographic Society scientists and researchers have installed the world's highest, fully automated weather stations atop Mount Everest.
  •         Total five weather stations, including one at a record height of 27,657 feet, were installed on the Earth's highest mountain above sea level.  Mount Everest is the highest Peak in the world with elevation of 29030 feet.  

4 – Culture Minister, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, Inaugurates the exhibition-ASTITVA

·        Shri Prahalad Singh Patel, Minister of State (I/c) of Culture & Tourism, Government of India will inaugurate the exhibition titled "Astitva: The Essence of Prabhakar Barwe”, at National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, tomorrow, 13th of June 2019.
·        Astitva : The essence of Prabhakar Barwe’, is the first of its kind to be held in New Delhi that will present his artistic oeuvre in four distinct phases. The artworks are chronologically orchestrated in each space, each representing a peculiar phase of Barwe's practice. Beginning with Roop Tantra, one encounters Barwe's early works from Sir J.J. School of Art and their transition into Tantric formations. Accompanied with designs made by the artist during his years at the Weavers Service Centre and a few textile works will be displayed, depicting Barwe's engrossment and turn from design into Tantra, and ultimately into his own Swatantra, reflected through his work Ethereal Transitions. Works beginning from 1958 until 1977 form a part of this space.

                    SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

1 - ISRO unveiled plan to set up its own space station in seven years.

 

·        ISRO unveiled plan to set up its own space station in seven years. ISRO is to set up a very small and a separate space station. It will not be a part of the International Space Station (ISS).

·        The project will be an extension of the Gaganyaan mission,which aims to send an Indian crew to space in 2022. 

·        The International Space Station (ISS) is a partnership between European Space Agency, the United States (NASA), Japan (JAXA), Canada (CSA) and Russia (Roscosmos). It is the world's largest international cooperative programme in science and technology.hina also plans to build a space station of its own.


2 - US embassy launches ‘Education USA’ app for Indian students

·        On the event of Student Visa Day (June 12, 2019), an event that celebrates higher education ties between India and the United States, the American Embassy has launched an app named “Education USA” to help Indian students who wish to study in the US (United States) Universities.

 1 - Chinese President Xi Jinping was conferred with Manas Order of the First Degree.

 

·        Chinese President Xi Jinping was conferred with Manas Order of the First Degree, the highest national award in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He was awarded during visit to  Kyrgyzstan before the SCO summit. President Xi said that the honour has fully demonstrated the relationship between both the countries and people. 

·        Kyrgyzstan is hosting 19th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit starting 14 June 2019. SCO is a Eurasian political, economic and security alliance in which China plays an influential role. The founding member of SCO includes China, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. India and Pakistan were admitted to Beijing-based regional security grouping in 2017.

 

 

2 -  Manipur youth inducted into Facebook ‘Hall of Fame’ for discovering Whatsapp bug.

·        A 22-year-old civil engineerZonel Sougaijam from Imphal east of Manipur was recognized by the social media giant “Facebook” for discovering and reporting a WhatsApp bug that violated the privacy of a user.

 1 - India Appreciates 'Royal Pardon' to 17 Indians by the Sultan of Oman.

·        On the occasion of Eid ul Fitr, Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said granted a royal pardon to 17 Indians serving various jail sentences in Oman

·        Indian Embassy in Oman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar appreciated the merciful gesture of Oman’s Sultan.

 

2 - The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit Kicks Off in Bishkek.

·        The heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) counties descend on Bishkek for the group’s 19th Leaders’ Summit on June 14 in BISHKEK IN KRYGISTAN’ CAPITAL.

·        The SCO as we know it now was originally rooted in a 1995 treaty, and dubbed the Shanghai Five in 1996, with China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan as members. Uzbekistan joined in 2001 and the group — initially focused closely on military and border matters between China and what had been the Soviet Union until 1991 — transformed into an SCO with ambitions of deeper cooperation.

·        In 2017, after years of dithering and delay, India and Pakistan were finally formally made members of the SCO.

 1 - Jemimah Rodrigues becomes third player from India to feature in Kia Super League.

·        Young cricketer of India, Jemimah Rodrigues has become the third Indian woman cricket player to feature in Kia Super League (KSL) after Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur. She will play in the fourth and final edition of the KSL.

 2 - Sourav Kothari wins 2019 Pacific International Snooker Championship.

·        Indian billiards player Sourav Kothari won the 2019 Pacific International Snooker Championship, held in the Reventon Classic, in Melbourne, Australia. He defeated Tyson Crinis of Australia to win the title.

 3 - Track body IAAF to rebrand as World Athletics.

·        The international governing body for the sport of athletics, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) is to change its name as World Athletics.

·        The identity of the brand will be introduced in October 2019 after one last edition of the world championships in Doha, Qatar under IAAF.

  1 - World Blood Donor Day 2019 observed on June 14.

·        World Blood Donor Day 2019 (WBDD) was observed on June 14. It is celebrated by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness of blood donation. The theme of this year’s campaign is blood donation and universal access to safe blood transfusion, as a component of achieving universal health coverage. It encourages people all over the world to become blood donors and donate blood regularly. The Slogan for World Blood Day 2019 is “Safe blood for all”.
