1 - CHANDRAYAN- 2 To be launched on July 15, ISRO release first image. 

  • CHANDRAYAN -2 will be launched on July 15,2019 confirmed ISRO Chairman K.Sivan on June 12.
  • CHANDRAYAN - 2 will comprise three module, An Orbiter, A Lander named VIKRAM and A Rover named PRAGYAN

  • The Orbiter will have eight payload, while the Lander and the Rover will have three and two respectively.
  • The orbiter, which will have scientific payload, would orbit the Moon.
  • The Lander would make a soft landing on the Moon at a predetermined site and deploy the Rover.





2 - Thawarchand Gehlot, Replaces Arun Jaitley as leader of Rajya Sabha.



  • Thawarchand Gehlot, The union minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, has been appointed as the new leader of Rajya Sabha.
  • The position was previously occupied by Senior BJP leader under the first Narendra Modi led Govt.
  • An experienced parliamentarian, Gehlot represent s the Dalit Community in the BJP
  • The ruling party has the responsibility of appointment of the leader of the house.





3 - Virat Kohli sole Indian in Forbes 2019 list of world's highest-paid athletes.



  • Indian skipper Virat Kohli is again the only Indian in the Forbes 2019 list of world's highest-paid athletes.
  • The list, announced on June 11, 2019, is topped by Argentinean football star Lionel Messi.





4 - World Day against Child Labour 2019: ILO’s 2019 theme, ‘Children shouldn’t work in fields, but on dreams’



  • 12 June 2019- World Day against Child Labour
  • The World Day against Child Labour is being observed across the world today, on June 12, 2019. The theme of the day this year is, 'Children should not work in fields but on dreams'.
  • The World Day against Child Labour was established by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2002 to focus attention on the global extent of child labour and the action and efforts needed to eliminate it.





5 - India to be guest country at Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico.



  • The National Book Trust announced that India has been designated as the Guest of Honour at the 33rd Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara (Guadalajara International Book Fair), in Mexico.
  • The book fair, to be organised from November 30 – December 8, will be the largest book fair in the Spanish speaking world.
  • The dedicated India pavilion at the fair will showcase over 35 Indian authors and artists, along with 15 publishing houses.





6 - Government sets target of providing clean drinking water to all by 2024.



  • Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said the Central government has decided to increase coverage of piped water to households from current 18 per cent to 100 per cent by 2024.
  • Sikkim had 99 per cent coverage of piped water to households, while some states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand had below five per cent.



7 - Centre sets up committee headed by Kirit Parikh to review LPG marketing.



  • The Centre has set up a five-member committee headed by economist Kirit Parikh.
  • The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is now looking to review the existing structure of LPG marketing in India — a move seen as an effort to bring in more private players.
  • The new committee, set up will look into issues related to definition or quality standards of LPG being marketed.

1 - India ranked 113 out of 176 countries in End of Childhood Index 2019.



  • According to the 3rd End of Childhood Index 2019, a part of Changing Lives in Our Lifetime – Global Childhood Report 2019, India was ranked 113 in 176 countries on the wellbeing of children with 769 score out of 1000.
  • The Index was released on May 28, 2019 by ‘Save the Children’, a United Kingdom (UK) based non-profit organisation which works for child rights.
  • In 2018, India was ranked 116 among 172 countries.
  • Countries were evaluated on 8 parameters on the well being of those up to 19 years of age namely child mortality, malnutrition, lack of education, child labour, early marriage, adolescent birth, displacement by conflict and child homicide. They were scored out of 1000.








                                     APPOINTMENT





1 - Sharad Kumar named interim CVC.



  • On June 11,2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi headed selection panel has named Vigilance Commissioner Sharad Kumar as interim Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) for a term of four years or till he attains the age of 65.
  • The move comes after the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) KV Chowdary completed his tenure at anti-graft body.
  • Mr. Sharad Kumar was a former head of the National investigation agency (NIA).





2 - Virendra Kumar will be the pro-tem Speaker of 17th Lok Sabha.



  • Virendra Kumar(65), has been named as the Pro-tem Speaker of 17th Lok Sabha. He is the Member of Parliament (MP) of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Madhya Pradesh.
  • He was a seven-time member of Parliament. He won the Lok Sabha election from Tikamgarh constituency in Madhya Pradesh.
