1 - Unemployment rate in India at 6.1% in 2017-18.
  • According to a survey conducted by National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) between July 2017 and June 2018 covering 4.3 lakh people revealed that the unemployment rate was about 6.1% in 2017-18, highest in 45 year since 1972-73.
  • Unemployment was higher in urban areas as compared to rural. 
  • The unemployment rate in rural areas was about 5.3% while in urban areas it was about 7.8% 
2 - Indian economy lost its spot as world’s fastest growing economy to China. 

  • Indian economy lost its spot as the world’s fastest-growing economy to China. As per Reuters survey, it registered 6.3% annual growth in the January-March quarter, its slowest pace in six quarters. China recorded a growth of 6.4% in the March Quarter. 
3 - RBI initiated Financial Literacy Week from June 3-7, 2019. 

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has initiated Financial Literacy (FL) Week from June 3-7, 2019. The theme of the event is “Farmers” and how they benefit by being a part of the formal banking system. Financial Literacy Week is an initiative of RBI to promote awareness about financial products and services, good financial practices, going digital and consumer protection. 
4 - Telangana Formation Day: 02nd June 
  • On the occasion of the fifth Telangana State Formation Day on 02nd June 2019, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have extended their wishes to the people of the state.
  • Telangana Formation Day is celebrated on the formation of Telangana State on 2nd June every year since 2014. The State celebrates the occasion with formal events across the districts.

  • Ajit Doval has been granted cabinet status and five more years as the National Security Adviser (NSA). He has been given cabinet rank in recognition of his contribution in the national security domain. 2 - Nayib Bukele to be sworn as President of El Salvador 
  • Nayib Bukele, a conservative businessman sworn in as the President of El Salvador, a small Central American nation, by the speaker of National Assembly. He will succeed Salvador Sanchez Ceren, a leftist former guerrill.


1 - Ex-President Pratibha Patil awarded Mexico’s highest civilian award
  • Former president of India, Pratibha Patil was honored with the highest civilian award of Mexico termed “Orden Mexicana del Aguila Azteca” (Order of the Aztec Eagle).
  • She becomes the second Indian after the late President S. Radhakrishnan granted this honour.
