1 - Cyclone Fani dealt a big blow to honeybees in coastal Odisha.
  • Cyclone Fani caused substantial damage to honeybees living in the natural environment homes in the coastal areas of Odisha.
  • The loss of pollinators to affect the production of fruits and vegetables in the storm-hit areas.
  • The particularly grim in Puri and Khurda districts are badly affected.
  • · About Cyclone Fani
  • Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Fani the strongest tropical cyclone to strike the Indian state of Odisha since Phailin in 2013.
  • The second named storm and the first severe cyclonic storm of the 2019 North Indian Ocean cyclone season.
  • Fani originated from a tropical depression that formed west of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean on 26 April.

2 - SEBI tightened rating guidelines to enhance standards.
  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) issued stricter norms for rating agencies to enhance standards. This move comes after a series of defaults at Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL & FS) in 2018.

3 - Second Meeting of India-Italy Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism was held in New Delhi.  
  • The 2nd Meeting of India-Italy Joint Working Group (JWG) on Counter Terrorism was held in New Delhi. It was co-chaired by Mr. Mahaveer Singhvi, Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism), Ministry of External Affairs and Mr Diego Brasioli, Principal Director for Security, Disarmament and non-Proliferation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy.

4 - 1st session of 17th Lok Sabha has begun.

  • First session of 17th Lok Sabha has started. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the first MP to take oath in the 17th Lok Sabha. The inaugural session of the new Lok Sabha has started with the swearing in of its members.
All the members will be administered the oath by the protem Speaker Virendra Kumar. The first session of the 17th Lok Sabha will continue till June 26.

1 - World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought 2019 observed on June 17.

·        World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (WDCD) 2019 was observed on June 17. It is celebrated to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification. 2019 Theme of WDCD is “Let’s Grow the Future Together”. Desertification is the degradation of land in various areas like arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid. It is caused by human activities and then by climatic variations.

1 - Forbes ‘Global 2000’ list 2018: Top 58 Largest Indian Public Companies.

·        Forbes, the business magazine, in June this year, released the ‘Global 2000’ list mentioning the largest public sector companies all over the world.
