1 - Kimberley Process Intercessional Meeting 2019 held in Mumbai.

  • The Intercessional meeting of Kimberley Process (KP) will be hosted by India from 17th to 21st June 2019 in Mumbai.
  • Besides this, two special forums regarding Diamond Terminology and Artisanal Mining – Small Steps to Larger Outcomes, will be held during the Intercessional.
  •  India is one of the founder members of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and is the Chair of Kimberley Process for the year 2019 with the Russian Federation as Vice Chair.
  •  The Kimberley Process is a joint initiative involving Government, the international diamond industry and civil society to stem the flow of Conflict Diamonds.
2 - India allows 100,000 tonnes corn imports at lower duty as prices jump.
  •  India allowed two state-run trading companies to import 100,000 tonnes of corn at a concessional 15 percent import tax, the government said on June 14..
  • ·State-run MMTC and NAFED were each allowed to import 50,000 tonnes of corn for poultry firms in the 2019-20 financial year starting on April 1.
3 - Mission Aditya-L1
  • India could launch its first ever mission to study the Sun – Aditya-L1 — as soon as 2020, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chief K Sivan announced. There are a lot of things that scientists and astronomers are yet to learn about the Sun, he added, and the Aditya-L1 mission is hoping to address some of these questions while maintaining a direct line-of-sight with the Sun for the entire mission duration.
  • The mission, once called "Aditya-1" was renamed "Aditya-L1" after its final orbit around the L1 Lagrangian Point
  • The Aditya-L1 spacecraft will orbit 1.5 million km away from the Earth. While orbiting in Lagrangian point L1, it will not have any obstructions in viewing the Sun — not even during eclipses, the Chairman said. When the mission was first thought up, ISRO said that Aditya-L1 will carry just a single payload. This was later changed, and the mission now has six payloads in all.

4 - Indian horticulturist Kaleem Ullah Khan.
  • Haji Kalimullah has named a new variety of mango after Home Minister Amit Shah.
  • Haji Kalimullah Khan, popularly known as Mango man, is an Indian horticulturist and fruit breeder, known for his accomplishments in breeding mangoes and other fruits.
  • He is known to have grown over 300 different varieties of mangoes on a single tree, using grafting techniques. 

1 - International Yoga Day 2019
  • International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015.
  • An international day for yoga was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly.
  • Theme: - ‘Yoga for Heart’.
  • Narendra Modi in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.

2 - NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope to Retire in 2020.
  • After nearly 16 years of exploring the cosmos in infrared light, NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope will be switched off permanently on Jan. 30, 2020.
  • ·Spitzer is a small but transformational observatory. It captures infrared light, which is often emitted by “warm” objects that aren’t quite hot enough to radiate visible light. Spitzer has lifted the veil on hidden objects in nearly every corner of the universe, from a new ring around Saturn to observations of some of the most distant galaxies known.

1 - India static at 101st in FIFA rankings.
  •  The Indian football team remained static at 101st place in the FIFA rankings. India had finished third in the King’s Cup in Thailand. The Indian team is at 18th spot among the Asian countries led by Iran (20th), Japan (28), Korea (37), Australia (43) and Qatar (55) form the top five in Asia.
  • Belgium topped in ranking.


1 - Akshaya Patra wins BBC award.
  •  Akshaya Patra, a non-profit organization, has been awarded the BBC World Service Global Champion Award. It runs one of the world’s largest school meals project in India.
  • Akshaya Patra receives the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2016 along with Sulabh International.
